One might expect to see the Nexus Technical Commandstation present on the set of a sci-fi movie or TV show. Its fluid forms are sharp and sleek and it looks like it must be made from a cutting-edge malleable material that can be modeled and then rendered robust
This example of avant-garde furniture was designed by Andrew van der Merwe, incorporating a computer desk and an office chair into one. The sculptural base curves up to support the swiveling seat while a thicker branch rises and morphs into a blade-like writing surface with a projecting desk lamp overhead.
It might look like a single solid piece, but the Nexus Technical Commandstation’s tabletop can separate and slide sideways to reveal a convenient storage space inside.
Though the capsule bed has already been seen in futuristic movies and in some designer’s collections, we are now seeing this type of bed getting more recognition. Future capsule or pod beds will create a surrounding atmosphere for its occupant that includes temperature control, surround sound, and special lighting for a more peaceful sleep. Some predict that the newest capsule beds will feature implanted computer systems and will have the ability to sense the comfort level of their sleeper, to adjust the lighting, temperature, and sounds for the most relaxing sleep possible.
